McDavid Hall

McDavid Hall

McDavid Hall is the Atlantis of MU. No one seems to know it exists, or where it is located on campus. McDavid is nestled in the farthest northwestern corner of campus—so be prepared for a mini-expedition when it’s time for class.

Although the journey to Baja Grill is a 20-minute walk, downtown Columbia is only a block away. Downtown is a refreshing change from the campus scenery. When you tire of studying at Memorial, you can simply walk to Lakota, Kaldi’s or Panera Bread, and when you inevitability become repulsed by dining hall food, Chipotle is right down the street.

Unfortunately the closest dining hall is Mark Twain, and on the weekends it only offers to-go options. During the winter, making a bowl of Ramen in the dorm usually sounds more appealing than a chilly walk to Mark Twain for frozen chicken-fingers.

McDavid is also known as the “art dorm.” Most of its residents are in the Fine Arts Residential Community. The first floor of McDavid is filled with music practice rooms and an art studio. The dorm organizes artistic group activities, a monthly talent show and a McDavid magazine. Living in the “art dorm” also means a guy playing the Tuba at 10 a.m. might wake you up Saturday morning.

With a little over 150 residents, McDavid is the smallest dorm at MU. Because of its size, there is a heightened sense of community. Almost everyone knows each other. Although McDavid is secluded, it is easy to make friends within the hall. Find someone who shares your love of Baja, and you can build a new friendship during your trek across campus.
