Center Hall

North/Center/South Residence Hall

Center Hall is a “suite” place to stay for anyone interested in living on campus, but if an apartment complex is looking more appealing, don’t ROAR just yet.

Center is conveniently located across the street from Faurot Field, which means waking up just before a football game isn’t a problem. Mizzou Arena is also very accessible for those early morning basketball ticket pickups.

Center is also a stone’s throw away from Greektown, half a block away from Dobbs dining hall and just a short walk from Stankowski Field. Missing meals at Dobbs or dealing with an insatiable midnight craving isn’t a problem because a Mizzou Market with a Subway is located on the first floor.

The closest classrooms to Center are on the bottom floor of the building, but not many classes are held there. Don’t count on a short walk to any class and plan those morning schedules carefully.

Another advantage of living in Center is that it’s fairly new. It is cleaner, brighter and more open than older residence halls like Mark Twain. However, the thing Center is most lacking in is a good social environment because the doors don’t stay open on their own. Even the most social of butterflies would have trouble meeting new people unless they went pounding on door after door.

All in all, Center gets a 4.5 out of 5 star overall rating because though it lacks community, the facilities are great. It’s not close to most classes, but it still has a prime location and parking is usually close unless you land a spot in the Faurot parking lot.

The obvious disadvantages that come with living on campus lie in the amenities. Yes, Center offers a kitchen and laundry room. No, those things are not in the rooms or even on the same floor as most of the residents.

Off-campus living doesn’t require kitchen key checkouts or paying $1.25 to use the washer and dryer. Also, not having a meal plan or paying for every laundry use makes living off campus a lot cheaper.

A single suite at Center plus the 225 meals-per-semester dining plan comes to a grand total of $1,063 a month. That price can be greatly reduced at most apartments. However, a four-person single suite in Center gives living on campus a more off-campus feel.

Don’t forget, the student ID is the key to student life when you live on campus. Getting locked out of the room is a fairly regular occurrence for a busy student.
